Sunrise is a three-dimensional recreation of a Tibetan Thangka painting anchored by a Hamsa, a palmshaped amulet with origins in the Middle East and North Africa. The Hamsa stands on a semi-spherical base and in front of a rotating planetary body, suggesting a certain dynamism and instability in our attempts to create a shared, hybrid environment.

Nightfall (2019)

Nightfall is inspired by paintings and artifacts depicting Mary standing on a globe with a crescent moon as well as goddesses with multiple hands in Eastern religions. Here, only the tips of a crescent moon are displayed, opening this pair of horns to other allusions. The fleur-de-lis sculpture consists of a pair of praying hands flanked by the Buddhist gesture representing debate and a hand from a Western medieval manuscript representing speech. These ‘speaking hands’ precariously balance on a semi-sphere, alluding to the uncertainty that exists in being together.
